Episode 1 – Treats: Cookies, Muffins & Truffles

This is the perfect episode to get kids in the kitchen. Chef Desireé works with the kids to make chocolate chip cookies, walnut cookies, blueberry muffins, and truffles.

Episode 2 – Breakfast: Waffles, Eggs & Sausage
(running time 41 min)
In episode 2, Chef Desireé makes breakfast with the kids. They create waffles from scratch and learn how to make scrambled, fried and poached eggs plus omelets.

Episode 3 – Asian Dinner: Sushi & Stir Fry
(running time 45 min)
The kids and Chef Desireé have fun in the kitchen preparing vegetables for maki rolls and learning to stir fry without a wok. They also discuss different types of rice and how to cook and season it. Finally, they prepare a delectable dipping sauce.

Episode 4 – Cooking Methods: Braising, Frying & Searing
(running time 45 min)
In this episode, the kids learn several cooking methods and apply those methods to several entrées. Chef Desireé shows them how to make “Grandma” Bread, sear fish (Walleye), deep fry chicken wings, and braise beef and vegetables for a stew.

Episode 5 – Lunch: Chicken Soup & Egg Salad

Chef Deireé helps the kids make lunch. They cook soup from scratch - including dumplings. Before assembling Egg Salad, the kids learn how to make homemade mayonnaise. Finally, they bake bread to go along with their lunch.

Episode 6 – Italian DInner: Ravioli, Sauce & Meat Balls
(running time 43 min)
Four lucky kids help cook an Italian dinner. They make dough and create their own ravioli. Then, they create tomato sauce from fresh tomatoes and add just the right seasonings for their meatballs. Last, they put together a Caesar Salad with a little help from the Chef.

BONUS DISC – Kitchen Safety: Equipment & Knife Skills
(running time 50 min)
In this bonus DVD, Chef Desireé talks in depth about safety and teaches pan identification. She also teaches proper use of knives and cutting techniques. Kids receive hands on training in several different vegetable cuts such as dice, batonnet, julienne, chiffonade and chop.

About the Chef
Desireé Dorwart spent much of her youth at her parent’s restaurant. She has a BA in Psychology and attended the New England Culinary Institute in Vermont. Since 2001 she has been an instructor of the culinary arts at The Art Institutes International Minnesota in Minneapolis. Desireé and her husband, Philip, who is also a chef, own Create, a catering company. They also have an organic farm where they plan to start a Community Supported Agriculture program with an emphasis on education.
